Rose grew up with art all around her. Her parents met while studying art at East Sydney Technical College so it was natural for Rose to follow in their footsteps.
Rose has produced art in many forms and is not limited to the traditional painting and drawing genre. For example, after leaving school she become a Florist and worked in this trade for 30 or so years. This was a career in which she could combine her creativity and her love of nature as an art form.
After having a family and while still working as a florist, she decided to pursue her formal art education. After attaining an Associate Diploma in Fine Art at the Penrith Technical college, Rose completed a B.A. of Fine Art at The National Art School in Sydney, majoring in painting and drawing.
Her work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions and now resides in many private collections both here in Australia and overseas.
As an artist Rose’s work is often based on nature and the simple beauty of things around her.
Rose has taught art at TAFE, secondary school level and in community colleges. She takes great pleasure in enhancing the natural ability of her students using media such as graphite, charcoal, pastel and paint to name a few.
Together with her ability for painting and drawing comes her love of creating and sharing her knowledge. She believes that behind every work of art there should be a strong foundation of drawing and composition.
Rose’s classes will be run at our Studio. If you are interested in joining Rose’s class which will be run on Tuesday mornings she can be contacted on: 0415757720.

She studied acrylic and oil painting under Maree Sproats at Dural Art Studios, and plein air painting from Kasey Sealy and John Wilson. Margaret also learnt watercolour and pen and wash with Joe Cartwright at Penrith. Her main influence though was her mother, Gwen Chalmers, who was a passionate painter of over 30 years.
She is also tutoring at Springwood Community Arts Centre where her pen and wash classes are proving very popular.
Di’s Children’s art classes contact 0423810605I am sure your child will enjoy the relaxed, friendly and encouraging atmosphere of art lessons with me at the Society. I teach Watercolour, Acrylic and Drawing techniques. Classes are small, the children are aged from 8-17 and range in ability from beginner to advanced. My aim is to show them the techniques, tools, and tricks to unleash their creativity, develop their drawing and/or painting skills and find their own style. They do not need to have previous experience in painting or drawing, they will learn as they go. They are required to bring their own equipment and I will provide a comprehensive list in the first week.
Classes are held between 4-6pm on Wednesday, Thursday or Fridays during school terms and are based on a 10 week term. It is also a requirement of the Nepean Art Society that the children become members at a once per year cost of $30 per student.
