Shirley Peters Acrylic course, 4 Weeks – Saturday 9:30am – 12 noon
Lesson 1: Landscape
My initial class will be a demonstration of a landscape painting. I will distribute copies of the scene for students to paint along.
Topics for discussion:
Why choose acrylic over oils or watercolour?
What brand paint should I buy?
Are acrylics easy?
Lesson 2: Beachscape
I will demonstrate a beach painting in acrylic. I will distribute copies of the scene for students to paint along, or they can bring your own photo to paint from.
Topics for discussion:
Using a big brush
Painting “en Plein Air”
Painting acrylic on paper
Lesson 3: Cityscape
The demonstration this week will be a built environment. Once again, students can bring their own photo if they prefer, but I will have copies of my reference available.
Topics for Discussion:
Tablet or paper print for reference
What to paint, not how to paint
Perspective is everywhere
Lesson 4: Still Life
This week I will set up a still life in the centre of the room, and students will paint from their own perspective.
Topics for Discussion:
Why artists need the internet
Getting started with your own page on Facebook, or a blog
I will have a list of artists for students to research regarding each week’s theme. Depending on the experience level of the group, my demonstrations could take a ‘back seat’ over students getting a full morning’s painting as the course progresses.
