'Art and craft has featured to a greater or lesser extent throughout my life, because creating is as necessary to me as breathing. I did well at art in school, but it was never a career path, and I married and had children at a young age, so those duties pushed aside everything but knitting clothing for my kids.
In the mid-1990s, I had the opportunity to attend TAFE as a mature age student and ended up completing a diploma in Fine Arts, passing with distinction. I also achieved First Prize in the TAFE Art and Design Awards at the end of my Advanced Diploma year. However, once I left TAFE, I lost the impetus to continue on making art, and my creativity was funneled into a multitude of different crafts.
It wasn't until around 2017 that I began focussing on visual art again - I started attending pastel classes held by Sue Gasser at the church we both attend. It was slow-going at first, and I would only work on my art in classes. However, after a couple of years, I began to get the hang of how pastels work and my confidence started to grow. I began to continue on my work at home and with Sue's constant encouragement, I got a few pieces framed. I joined a couple of art societies and began to show my work. Sales made it clear that my work was improving and that I was on the right track.
Now, I continue to work in pastels and continue to learn, and continue to hope that my work depicts some of the beauty of the world in which we live.'
