We gladly announced that Karen James has agreed to undertake a workshop for our society this year.

Karen works and teaches from her Mount Rankin studio/gallery, just out of Bathurst NSW.
From 1983 she was trained in oils under the guidance of Australian artist Marjorie Prophet.
As Karen’s love of art grew and became a life passion, she was encouraged to spread her wings and attend other artist classes, the most influential being, the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney.  In 2000 they moved to live in the South Island of NZ at the seaside town of Kaikoura, where they ran an art gallery and tourist accommodation. In 2002 Karen began teaching art to adults and children in her studio which grew into a thriving art school. In 2018 they moved back across the ditch to settle in the Bathurst area of NSW. Karen’s subject matter is varied as she tends to paint what appeals to her whether it be seascape, landscape, still life, animals or people. She works and teaches in oils, pastels, acrylics and charcoal drawing.
Karen looks forward to sharing her love of pastel with you and helping each of you on your art journey. https://www.facebook.com/karenjames.art

OVERVIEW OF WORKSHOP

This workshop will focus on the exciting and versatile medium of soft pastel. We will look at how to start a pastel work, different ways of applying pastel and create a couple of finished pastel works throughout the day. There will be plenty of demonstrations, looking at other artists’ pastel work through books and lots of individual guidance. We will use various still life as our subjects to choose from, working from photographs I supply.

SUITABILITY

Ideal for the beginner or if you've been using pastels for a while and would like a refresher on using soft pastels.

BREAKS:

There will be morning tea and lunch breaks during the day. Kettle, fridge and microwave are available for your use. Bring all your food requirements or purchase at shopping centre.
