Over the past two decades, his passion for the medium has flourished, allowing him to explore a wide range of subjects—from rural landscapes and urban scenes to dramatic coastal vistas.

In recognition of his artistic excellence, Chan was elected to the prestigious Australian Watercolour Institute in 2017—one of the highest honours for an Australian watercolourist. He is also a sought-after tutor and respected judge of regional and national art awards.

Known for his innovative teaching methods and generous spirit, Chan conducts workshops across Australia and leads international painting tours.

His work and expertise have been featured in leading art publications, including Australian Artist and Artists Palette.

TWO DAY WORKSHOP - WATERCOLOUR IMPRESSIONS

This two-day workshop is ideal for students who already have some experience with watercolour and are looking to take their skills to the next level. The focus will be on capturing the mood of a subject—an essential element in creating truly compelling watercolours.

Watercolour’s unique ability to convey atmosphere will be explored through a series of carefully selected subjects. Each day, students will complete two paintings from start to finish, with each piece designed to highlight a specific technique or key learning point.

Expect engaging discussions, practical tips, and guidance on how to avoid common pitfalls. If you enjoy the challenge of creating loose, expressive and bold watercolours, this workshop is for you.

Chan is renowned for his generosity in sharing his deep knowledge of the medium. Through live demonstrations, he will show how to:

 Create a sense of depth and atmosphere

 Incorporate figures naturally

 Connect shapes effectively

 Master edge control

 Harness the medium’s magic to stunning effect

Each student will receive individual attention and encouragement throughout the workshop.

When it comes to materials, I would highly recommend buying the best quality materials you could afford. These will make a significant difference to your work and avoid unnecessary frustrations. In the list below I have avoided, where possible any unnecessary expensive materials and provided you with cheaper alternatives.
