Gallery of Monika Scheffler

Hi, I'm Monika (Mon) and my life journey took a very different turn in August 2012, when I first started painting. I enjoyed it so much, that I decided to become a diverse artist using various media. I love the transparency of watercolours, the smooth feel of oils as it seems to glide over the surface and the vibrant colours of acrylics, inks and mixed media.

I was introduced to landscape painting using oils by participating in an online course from beginners to intermediate level and continued with a couple of separate courses.

Nearly a year later, in 2013 I became a member of the Nepean Art Society in Penrith and joined a weekly watercolour class, which culminated in participating in a workshop at Charles Sturt University as part of the Mitchell School of Arts with Joseph Zbukvic, a master of watercolours. In between, I have taught myself the use of acrylics, inks and mixed media work using lots of textures.

Ever since I began painting I have been inspired by the many different landscapes. I'm drawn to a glow on buildings or sandstone cliffs, a play with light and shade, reflections on still waters, the vast areas and earthy tones of the Australian Outback, the beauty of the rugged and wild Blue Mountains National Park, the beautiful Aussie coast and everything in between. It all comes back to a beautiful poem I came across in school by Dorothea Mackellar, 'My Country'.

It's become quite obvious that my mission, now, is to showcase the beauty of the word around us before it disappears.

Landscapes aside, every now and then I totally enjoy the process of creating floral work, especially with inks and acrylics. Their vibrant colours are to die for.

Currently, I have any number of works in progress, from the drawing stage to the just finished stage and I have so many more images already collected and waiting to be transformed.

I put my heart and soul into each piece, which makes it unique and one of a kind.

I'd like to believe that as my journey continues, my skills will improve. I'll be looking forward to experimenting with other media and surfaces such as Alcoholic Inks, Pastels and Fluid Art, which hopefully will tend towards more Abstract Art.

This year I have decided to enter more group exhibitions and Art Prizes.

I am most happy when I receive feedback along the lines that my paintings inspire others, create a feeling of calm and happiness, a brought-back memory, as well as a feeling of wanting to be there. I feel we are in very uncertain times, and lead hectic lives which encourages me to create such work which brings a positive note to ones' lives.
